What if it's not capitalism... or not just primarily capitalism? What if it is anything that competes with the teaching of the philosophies and moral premises that came before capitalism and built present society? Actually, science is the worst offender in that situation. It has claimed that philosophy is obsolete and it certainly is no longer taught as the most basic of subjects as it was. It used to be taught in grammar school. Without the most basic of philosophy being taught, think the Boy Scout's Motto rather than Stoicism, our moral instincts don't develop. We don't develop empathy. Late stage capitalism is a result rather than the cause.
