"That's how we got the savage capitalism". I don't think so. We have instincts for both cooperation and competition. I think capitalism is a feature of good old, red of tooth and claw, competition.

"not to adapt to a world that is being imposed upon us." I dunno. All survival and evolution are about adapting to our ecology. As a biologist I mostly study human survival by genetic and strategic adaptation. There is so much potential to it, that it will be well worth it. They could look outside their city gates and see "man in nature" and it wasn't pretty. We can become more than animals.
