That is so sad. I must be impressed by your moral strength. I do study genetics though and the reason is that it is predictable that the birth defect rate is going to continue to rise. Rather than environmental causes though, I study the effects of mutations from the past and de novo mutations that happen every generation. The mutation rate of broken genes is rising because parents are older now. Natural selection is being reduced because of smaller families, medicine and other effects that we call human progress. Humanity is developing a genetic load of broken genes. My work is about how we can deal with that problem. I think I have done some amazing work, but no one cares, which I understand. I believe that only when mothers like yourself, who so desperately want healthy children, find out the problem will anyone pay attention to my work about how to solve the problem of birth defects.
