My neighbor and I are hoping to plant 3 hybrid Chestnuts this Spring that are resistant. Apologies to the purists, but there isn’t room for huge ones anyway.

On another note, consider all those nuts… What was eating them? Sure, the people, but there were probably animals whose niche depended on them for food. I’ve been curious what animals disappeared with them. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were important to the elk, but the hunters got them first. The squirrels weren’t the main ones eating them or the land would have been carpeted with them. Maybe the deer. I’m very curious about it.

I work on long term human survival as humans try to adapt to a new ecology after we left the tribal ecology for the farms and cities of civilization
