I understand your reasoning, but I see a conundrum with it. It means that just about everyone in a civilization is a slave. I mean, the price of civilization is taxes. The reason civilization exists is because it is so much more efficient than tribal ecology. Everyone without independent wealth then is a slave. It gets much worse as you go back in history.

You aren't wrong, but you are missing something. I need to write an essay on this for a book I am writing. Perhaps it is simply mutualism, where we are all reliant on each other for survival.
