I put a comment below relevant to "I tend to think that the decline of philosophy" . Basically it claims that phislophy was a casualty (around the 1930's) of the decisive win of science in the war between science and religion. Science claims all authority of knowledge and calls philosophy a dead subject. Not only does science prevent the teaching of basic philosophy at a young age, as it should be taught, it even prevents the teaching of subjects like home economics and civics.
