I like this article and I like the thoughtful comments, but what if something important is missing? For instance: Capitalism is reliant on an ever expanding economy and market. Some people note that instead we really need to reduce world population. That is a biological factor. What if there are others? For instance, what if capitalism is driven by the blind competition described by Darwin? This would imply that there are corresponding, alternative strategies created by humans that might not have the inherent limitations of strategies created by evolution. We know that biological evolution works but we also know it is brutally red in tooth and claw as Capitalism can be. Can we then describe its limitations and level of efficiency? We can and the efficiency is pretty poor. Are there existing alternatives without even having to create completely new strategies? Yes. Can we evaluate their efficiency (and level of brutality or "social justice")? Yes. What then if they are more efficient and have less downsides than what we call capitalism? (There is a huge distortion of meaning in the word "capitalism" by the way.)

What is the greatest wealth of all? ... And the greatest source of wealth? Look for a biological answer again. Obviously then it is genetics... but they are just so obscure that no one includes them in their calculations even if health is considered of more value than wealth. What is the value of health... that nations include as part of their GDP (typically 15%)? What is the monetary value of intelligence? LOL... what is the value of beauty? They all come from genes. Evolution is defined as a change in gene frequency. What if we could ethically and economically increase the frequency of good genes for health beauty and brains? I'm not considering any super human, transhuman fantasy. I'm thinking of ... what we call good genes today ... maybe upper middle class genes. What would be the monetary, let alone social value of that? What if that would create and require a new, different strategy than "capitalism" could provide? It's all in the biology. The ultimate wealth is in the genes, the wealth that keeps on giving. Search on Amazon or YouTube for "Genetics For A New Human Ecology" if you want a new idea of wealth and human society. It's not radical because it is biology and survival is the ultimate conservatism.

I work on long term human survival as humans try to adapt to a new ecology after we left the tribal ecology for the farms and cities of civilization
