Michelle…I have to assume that you respond with “eugenics” whenever anyone mentions the words “genes” and “technology” together since the book is quite explicit about the problem of eugenics as we know it. In the past, all forms of eugenics were imitations of the notoriously brutal process of natural selection and have basically said “you cannot reproduce/survive because of your inferior genes”. That is a problem because in genetic terms the basis of morality is survival in the evolutionary sense and to risk that in others is to risk it in yourself. The book describes not only how to avoid that problem but how to avoid its natural progression. As things are, many people wonder if there is a future for themselves or their children. even if they don’t have genetic weaknesses, they may not have genetic gifts and are not cognitively superior. In nature, they would be replaced. Using genetic husbandry though, generation by generation, they could accumulate greater potentials for health, beauty, and brains. Nature cannot do that. Natural can only kill. Human genetic husbandry could select for the best genes of both parents, each generation. It is then a moral choice made by the individual to survive rather than death from natural selection or some political edict. It is about life instead of death. Genes are the greatest wealth of humanity. They need to be preserved.
In your case, why would you be sterilized? A generation or two of genetic husbandry would remove any genetic curse you might carry and preserve your strengths.
… Then you can read why racism is silly and contra survival… Nature has always selected for the hybrid. Genetics are additive. It is how we have progressed genetically and culturally. The world belongs to the hybrid and always will. As we go to an unknown future, our best chance for survival is represented by the genetic potentials of the ethnic variation of humanity.
Also, there are no existing laws in the Western world mandating sterilization for anyone for any reason…
