Ahhhh. It ruined my nap, but I have an answer. I'm not concerned with transhumanism because transhumanism is about human development, while I study human survival based on developing a new ecology that we can survive and develop in long term.

It could be simple in those terms. We could develop that ecology and just live in it. It has to be comfortable and feel natural anyway. Genetic evolution would continue slowly as it always has. Adaptation would be primarily strategic about preserving the ecology, our life support system, but... and that's one big but, there is a complication, disease or it's removal. What we call human progress has been the removal of natural selective effects, something that no species can survive. So as part of the survival strategy I came up with, I had to figure out an ethical, economical way to replace natural selection, primarily to remove the broken genes (de novo mutations or as I called them decades ago: "non-integral genes") that occur each generation. Well, once you use that technology to reduce the frequency of broken genes, you are inevitably going to use it to increase the frequency of "good" genes. Without any new genes, everyone could have excellent health, beauty and brains. I don't care about superhumans, because I consider humans to be pretty super already. Look at Simone Beals or Michael Polanyi. Oh yeah, then there is the hybrid, but no one thinks about that... it's all in the book...

I should say that ecology is a fantastic tool for organizing all the data needed, reality checking and for extrapolation. It is what the science was developed for, describing survival requirements, but also it restricts the domain of study. You can always ask if something fits into survival parameters. It also allows you to extrapolate based on well studied and described patterns of survival.

Now as I say, I restrict my discussions and work to getting into the new ecology where we can continue to survive, but that doesn't mean I haven't thought about other potentials and I assure you, using the context of ecological adaptation for direction, with an encyclopedic knowledge of SciFi as well as inane topics like science, cybernetics, cognition and philosophy, you can bet I've considered the stuff transhumanists get off on. (Like that sentence? I can do that all day long.) I did publish a book about cognition... somewhere.)

So now I need to write the strategy in a comprehensible form and I already see what a nightmare that will be. We have at least four neural nets to use for problem solving, including the cerebral cortex. I finally got to the last of them. Now let's see what answers I came up with. I just took a two week roadtrip, I man sabbatical, and I think I can do it... as I have thought before.

I work on long term human survival as humans try to adapt to a new ecology after we left the tribal ecology for the farms and cities of civilization
