Actually, I'm writing about that these days... or the cure for it. Short version, in the ancient war between religion and philosophy/science, science pretty decisively won after WWI. .. and the Scopes trial, so all we teach now is science. Science is great stuff that creates wealth and power, but not so much smarts and it doesn't so much lead to families. If you want smarts and families, you have to teach some philosophy... but which philosophy? Any basic philosophy but existentialism. All you are trying to do is get the natural thought process going. Also, don't teach advanced philosophy. It's no more useful to most people than advanced physics, but we rely on basic physics everyday. Start with Benjamin Franklin's 15 rules of life. Or start with the Maxims of Delphi from the foundations of Western philosophy. Stoicism, Buddhism, Aristotle's Ethics, etc. are all way too advanced for children and that's who it must be taught to. We used to teach it in grammar school. We need to again. It starts thought processes and releases moral instincts. We have families and make other moral decisions because our moral instincts are developed. Science doesn't do that.
